Claire has kept bees for 27 years since attending classes by George Somerville and
Adrian Waring at Northampton College of agriculture. Joining her local association
she was soon involved in the Newsletter production and programme organisation.
She then worked for BIBBA, organising conferences and working on their
publications. Similar work for BBKA led to her election to the Executive,
subsequently as General Secretary.
She has edited Bee Craft since 1997, during which time it has changed out of all
recognition, becoming a world class publication, winning 4 Gold Medals at
Apimondia 2007. Claire was a founding Director of Bees Abroad and is involved in
a variety of their projects. Tonight, she will provide an illustrated talk on Apis
cerana hive beekeeping and honey hunting in Nepal with Apis laboriosa; rafter
beekeeping in Cambodia with Apis dorsata; Apis florea and Apis andreniformis, the
little honey bees in Asia; and stingless bees in Cambodia, Thailand, Tanzania and
