Uniting Colonies
Uniting Colonies

Uniting (not combining, joining, amalgamating, etc!) is a beekeeping term for putting two or more colonies together that may be too weak to winter successfully on their own or to reduce numbers that may have increased more than the beekeeper intended during the summer..

Although the "newspaper method" is well known and the commonest used, we do show other methods that are as successful.

During the summer we demonstrate increasing colonies and have several queen mating nuclei that are surplus at the end of the year. These are ideal for demonstrating uniting.
